So my husband and I love to travel. Plus, you already know we love to drink tasty beers. So why not do both on a little mini stay-cay to Salida, Colorado which is about 2 hours southwest of Denver.
As we continue to see a lot of change here in Colorado with our population boom, more and more eccentric and creative folks are moving to smaller mountain communities where the pace is a little slower than the big city. These folks are opening up shops, shifting demographics, and reinvigorating sometimes more traditional mountain towns into thriving small communities. Salida is no exception, and the more recent influx of new residents has definitely added to this already bold town! Salida has long been home to two great pizza spots, Amicas Pizza and Moonlight Pizza & Brewpub, both of which are known as much for their beer as their tasty pizza. Amicas has more recently moved to a more central location in downtown Salida and made the choice to stop brewing on premise.
Instead, Amicas now borrows brewing space at Soulcraft Brewing, which opened its doors in 2016. Salida also borders the nearby town of Poncha Springs, where you can find the longstanding classic, Elevation Beer Company. Beer aside, my husband and I enjoyed our time away from Denver for the weekend, eating pizza, sipping on brews, and even taking a little day trip down to Great Sand Dunes National Park which is about an 1.5 drive south from town. With hot springs and skiing nearby it’s no wonder that Salida is making waves lately. We also stopped into shops like Howl Mercantile & Coffee and Sutty’s Downtown Records and Arts and stayed at the design-centric Amigo Motor Lodge. Now onto the photos!
